Walnut Meyric (Juglans Regia)

Meyric is a NZ-discovered walnut (Juglans regia) — discovered by Chris Ryan in Hawke's Bay and subsequently propagated by Vernon Harrison. A high-yielding main-crop variety producing large, good all-round nuts with a pale, shiny kernel that are easy to crack and store well. Stately, handsome large tree with a rounded head — valued equally for its ornamental and nut-producing qualities. Self-fertile but crops more heavily when planted alongside Wilson's Wonder or Shannon. Grows to 8m×6m in 10 years, ultimately to 20m×15m — needs generous space. Deciduous. Hardy and drought tolerant once established. Available at Springvale and specialist NZ walnut nurseries.
