Wakapiro Gold

Wakapiro Gold is a Japanese plum variety producing early mid-season fruit with gold skin and golden flesh — sweet and juicy with good flavour. The name is likely connected to the Northland area; it may be the same variety as 'Whakapirau Gold' (Whakapirau being a locality near Dargaville, Northland). If so, this would make it a locally selected or named NZ heritage plum of North Island provenance. Self-fertile. A useful early-season yellow plum with attractive golden colour. Available from specialist NZ plum nurseries.
