Wairoa

Wairoa is a NZ heritage apricot variety — a seedling selection from old trees growing in the Wairoa district of Hawke's Bay. Heritage apricot trees like these were grown from stones by early settlers and have adapted over generations to local conditions. Yields can be variable (as is typical for seedling-origin varieties), but the fruit quality when it crops is characteristic of the rich, sweet flavour of old-fashioned NZ apricots. Self-fertile. A heritage variety for those interested in locally-provenant NZ fruit.
