Van Deman

Van Deman is a heritage American quince variety producing large, oblong-pear-shaped fruit with bright yellow-orange skin and pale yellow flesh with a good, spicy, aromatic flavour. An early-ripening quince — one of the first quinces ready to harvest. Quinces must be cooked before eating, transforming from hard and astringent to fragrant and deep pink. Excellent for jelly, paste (membrillo) and preserves. Self-fertile. A productive and reliable variety. Available from specialist NZ nurseries.
