Tonda Romana

Tonda Romana is an Italian hazelnut variety producing good crops of small to medium-sized nuts with excellent, rich flavour — prized for fresh eating, roasting and confectionery. A reliable variety that performs well in NZ conditions. Hazelnuts are a cross-pollinating species and require another variety nearby: Barcelona, Merveille de Bollwiller and Tonda di Giffoni are all suitable pollinators. Deciduous shrub reaching 3–5m. Hardy throughout NZ. Harvest March to April.
