The Guava (Tropical)

The tropical Guava fruit is oval and averages around 7cm long. With yellow skin, the flesh varies between white, yellow and red in colour. The flesh is juicy and pulpy with soft edible seeds. Growing to 3–5m tall, this is a small open-branched evergreen tree with large dull mid-green leaves that may turn maroon in cooler climates. More cold tolerant than you might expect — can tolerate a few degrees of frost (-3°C) though young plants are very frost tender. Suitable for both humid and dry NZ climates. Best in a warm, sheltered, sunny position.
