Ruby Blood

Ruby Blood Orange is a blood orange variety producing medium-sized, reddish-fleshed oranges with an appealing strawberry-like taste note that sets blood oranges apart from standard varieties. Can be seedy. The pigmentation in blood oranges comes from anthocyanins and develops most intensely in cool conditions — cooler autumn and winter nights during ripening produce the deepest colour. Self-fertile. A premium and unusual citrus for NZ home gardens in frost-free areas. Available from NZ citrus nurseries.
