Ribston Pippin
Ribston Pippin is one of England's most historically significant heritage apples, first recorded at Ribston Hall in Yorkshire in the early 18th century. It was long considered the parent variety of Cox's Orange Pippin, though more recent DNA analysis has cast doubt on this — Ribston Pippin is a triploid variety (meaning it cannot contribute pollen to offspring), and DNA evidence now suggests Margil as the more likely Cox parent. Regardless of parentage, Ribston Pippin has its own excellent eating quality: intense, rich, aromatic flavour and sweet-sharp balance. Excellent for fresh eating, cooking and cider. A triploid variety requiring a pollinator.
