Red Pineapple

Red Pineapple is a cold-hardy pineapple variety — the most frost-tolerant of the NZ-available pineapples, making it accessible to home gardeners across a wider range of NZ conditions. Beautiful red skin when young with vivid purple flowers as each segment develops. Skin gradually fades to pale yellow when fully ripe — do not eat until every trace of red has gone. Sweet, juicy pink-yellow flesh. Approximately 1kg fruit. Bromeliads — pineapples are not trees but herbaceous plants. Available at Exotica NZ, Land of the Lotus and Kotare Subtropicals.
