Pouto Sugar

Pouto Sugar lives up to its name — producing a very sweet fig. An early producer of small, pear-shaped fruit with red-brown colouring at one end and pale flesh. Allow 4–8m depending on pruning. Traditionally used as a sweetener — dried or bottled and added to other dishes. Pouto Sugar was gifted to Koanga Institute by Logan Forrest of Pouto. A genuine NZ heritage variety. All NZ figs are self-fertile.
