Panama Gold

Panama Gold is a vigorous passionfruit vine producing extra large, golden-yellow fruit with sweet, aromatic pulp. The yellow-skinned varieties are a cross between purple and yellow passionfruit and handle the New Zealand climate well, though they are less cold-tolerant than the Black Beauty purple variety and perform best in the warmer northern regions of NZ. The fruit is larger than Black Beauty with a more tropical, sweet flavour and similarly aromatic pulp. Panama Gold fruits abundantly through autumn, spring and summer. As with all passionfruit, provide a warm, sunny, frost-free position with shelter from wind and a sturdy trellis to climb. Plant in free-draining soil rich in organic matter. Self-fertile.
