Mustu (Crispin)
Mutsu (also known as Crispin) is a large late-season apple developed in Japan in the 1930s from a cross between Golden Delicious and the Japanese variety Indo, officially introduced in 1948. It is noticeably larger and rounder than most apple varieties, with smooth yellow-green skin. The flesh is firm, crisp and juicy with a complex spicy-sweet flavour that has more depth than its Golden Delicious parent. Excellent for fresh eating, baking, pies and sauce. A low chill hour requirement makes it suitable for warmer NZ regions. Requires a pollinator but cannot itself pollinate other varieties as it is a triploid.
