Mulligan
Mulligan is a red tamarillo variety producing medium-sized, oval, dark red fruit with a full, intensely acidic flavour and dark red flesh throughout, inside and out. It is one of the more distinctive of the NZ tamarillo varieties in terms of its deep colour and robust flavour profile. Mulligan is one of the current commercial varieties recommended by the NZ Tamarillo Growers Association, alongside Ted's Red and Laird's Large. As with all tamarillos, the fruit ripens during the winter months from May to July, providing fresh fruit at a time when other home garden fruit is less plentiful. Plant in a warm, sheltered position with protection from frosts and strong winds. Self-fertile. Fast growing, reaching around 3 metres. Replace trees every seven to twelve years as productivity declines with age.
