Mogi

Mogi is a Japanese loquat variety producing good-sized, sweet fruit with light yellow flesh that ripens in early summer. The fruit is easier to peel than some other varieties, making it more convenient to eat. A very attractive, compact evergreen tree reaching around 6 metres with large, stiff, dull green leaves, Mogi produces clusters of woolly white fragrant flowers in winter followed by the characteristic golden-yellow fruit. Well suited as a specimen tree, in a container, or trained as an espalier against a wall. Prefers full sun to semi-shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Only tolerates light frosts. Self-fertile. Available from Wairere Nursery, Greenleaf Nurseries, Springvale Garden Centre and Flying Dragon Nursery.
