Maxwell Quirk

Maxwell Quirk is a NZ heritage apple variety from the Koanga Institute collection, bearing a name that likely commemorates either a local place or a person — the naming convention is consistent with Koanga's approach of preserving the local provenance of rescued heritage varieties. Many of NZ's orchard heritage apples carry names that are the only surviving record of the people and places they came from. Koanga has been collecting and preserving these varieties since the 1980s, recognising that once an old tree dies its genetics can be irreplaceable. Maxwell Quirk is one of the rarer varieties in the collection — with minimal documentation in public sources beyond its existence in the Koanga collection. Seedling grown at Koanga; all Koanga apple seedlings are organically grown (OG). Requires a pollinator for best cropping. Available from Koanga Institute.
