Maruia

Maruia is a NZ heritage apple — a chance roadside discovery, named for the Maruia area of the South Island. A lovely red-striped apple that is sweet-tart, juicy and firm to crisp with medium-sized fruit. Like Kiwi Railway Station, it represents the important NZ tradition of local orchardists identifying and propagating exceptional chance seedlings found growing along roadsides and in old orchards. Requires a pollinator. Mid to late season. Available at Wairere Nursery.
