Maroochy (Macadamia)

Maroochy is a pure Macadamia tetraphylla variety from Australia — the primary recommended cross-pollinator for Beaumont, the main NZ commercial macadamia. A very productive and reliable cropper producing small nuts with particularly good, rich flavour — the small size belies excellent taste quality. An attractive specimen tree with lustrous green leaves and racemes of fragrant pink flowers in summer. Grows to approximately 6m×4m in 10 years. Takes 4–5 years to first fruit, with 7–8 months for the nuts to mature. Self-fertile but more productive when planted with another variety. Nuts hang in clusters and should be maintained well-watered during nut development. Important: macadamias are toxic to dogs.
