Laxton's Fortune

Laxton's Fortune is a mid-season English heritage apple developed by Laxton Brothers Nursery in Bedford in 1904, from a cross between Cox's Orange Pippin and Wealthy. It produces medium-sized, short and round fruit with a greenish-yellow background covered in red flush and short red stripes. The cream-coloured flesh is crisp, juicy and sweet with subtle hints of aniseed and banana. It is often described as a more reliable and easier-to-grow alternative to Cox's Orange Pippin. A biennial bearer, meaning it tends to crop heavily in alternate years. Partially self-fertile.
