Korako

Korako is a small to medium NZ heritage peach with honey-amber skin, tender white flesh and outstanding sweetness — super sweet and melting when ripe. Must be picked at peak ripeness and eaten quickly, as it bruises easily. A classic heritage dessert peach from Te Whānau ā Apanui, reportedly one of the very old cultivars brought by early ship captains and now growing wild in the area. A rare taste of pre-European NZ fruit history. Self-fertile. Ripe late January. Available from Koanga Institute.
