Kohukohu

Kohukohu is an NZ heritage peach variety with honey-coloured skin, an old-fashioned red blush, and bright yellow-gold flesh with red around the stone. Outstanding and unusual flavour. Average sized fruit. Ripens in March, making it one of the later-season heritage peaches. From an original French settler's orchard near Kohukohu in Northland, cared for over 30 years by Ken Vincent who took it to Kaitaia when he shifted there. A living connection to NZ's early settler history. Self-fertile. Ripe March. Available from Koanga Institute.
