Kiyomi (Tangor)

Kiyomi is a tangor — the first tangor variety created in Japan, developed in 1949 at the Okitsu Branch Fruit Research Station in Shizuoka. A cross between Miyagawa Wase Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu) and Trovita orange (Citrus sinensis). Named after the temple Seiken-ji and the lagoon Kiyomi-gata near its research station. Produces medium-large, flat, seedless fruit with thin, easy-peel orange skin and sweet, juicy, mildly aromatic flesh that combines the best qualities of mandarin and orange. A parent variety of many modern premium Japanese citrus. Self-fertile. Available at Wairere Nursery.
