Italian (Prune)

Italian Prune (also known as Italian Prune Plum or Zwetschge) is the world's most widely grown prune variety — the classic dark purple-skinned, freestone plum with light amber flesh that turns a beautiful deep red when cooked. Fine-textured, richly sweet flesh. Excellent for eating fresh, drying into prunes, bottling and cooking. A vigorous, cold-hardy tree. Self-fertile. Late season, ripening around March. The definitive prune plum for NZ home gardens. Available at Wairere and nationwide nurseries.
