Idared originated in the USA in 1942 — a beautiful bright red, shiny apple with a flat shape, sweet-tart balanced flavour, suitable for eating fresh, juicing, cooking and jam. A versatile all-purpose apple with an attractive appearance. Good keeper. Requires a pollinator. Mid to late season. Growing to 4–5m. A practical, multipurpose heritage variety that performs consistently well across many NZ home garden conditions. Available at Wairere Nursery.
