Hawaiian (Pomelo)

Hawaiian grapefruit (also known as Pomelo or Pummelo — Citrus maxima) is the largest of all citrus fruits, producing very large, pale yellow fruit with a very thick spongy rind and pale flesh with mild, sweet-tart flavour less sharp than a standard grapefruit. A vigorous grower that needs significant space. Prefers a warm, frost-free position. The thick pith is ideal for candying and makes excellent marmalade. Self-fertile. Available from specialist NZ citrus nurseries.
