French Sugar

French Sugar is a heritage fig variety producing large fruit with dark green skin and succulent pale pink flesh. A heavy cropper with a later fruiting season than many figs. Also known as Huapai in some NZ collections — a local NZ name for this variety. French Sugar is valued for its large fruit size and sweet, rich flavour when fully ripe. All NZ figs are self-fertile — no pollinator required. A vigorous tree reaching 4–6m. Good for fresh eating, drying and preserving.
