Doyenne du Comice is the classic gourmet pear — large fruit with green skin flushed red and white, melting, incredibly juicy flesh of rich, complex flavour. Often described as tasting like sweetened cream. The finest-flavoured of all European pears. Requires a pollinator such as Williams or Packham's Triumph. Mid to late season.
