Dawn O'Leary

Dawn O'Leary is a late-season NZ heritage apple variety from the Koanga Institute collection, available on M9 dwarf rootstock — producing a compact tree that is ideal for smaller home gardens, espalier training or container growing. M9 rootstock trees typically reach 2–2.5m, making them one of the most manageable apple tree sizes for home orchardists. Named for an individual — in keeping with Koanga's tradition of naming locally preserved varieties for the people who safeguarded them. The exact fruit characteristics are undocumented in public records, reflecting how recently many of these NZ heritage varieties were rescued from old orchards before being lost. Growing a variety like Dawn O'Leary is an act of living preservation — keeping NZ apple genetic heritage alive in home gardens. All Koanga apple seedlings are organically grown (OG). Requires a pollinator. Available from Koanga Institute.
