Christina

Christina is a white-fleshed NZ heritage peach variety with green skin and red blush when ripe, red around the stone. Firmer and sweeter than the classic River Peach, of which it is a local Northland variation. Freestone, making it excellent for drying or bottling. Genetically stable — can be grown true from seed. Originally known as the River Peach, these once grew wild around the shores of the Kaipara Harbour from the 1880s to the 1980s. Collected from Phil Hodges of Paparoa, a well-known local fruit tree collector. Self-fertile. Ripe February. Available from Koanga Institute.
