Chausa

Chausa is an ultra-sweet Indian mango variety producing large fruit with a strong, sweet fruit scent and melon-custard flavour — one of the sweetest mangoes available at 20–22% sugar. Extremely juicy, soft and slippery in texture. January–February harvest. Mangoes require a warm, frost-free, sheltered position — viable in Northland, Auckland and Bay of Plenty. Indian varieties are recommended for NZ conditions as they show far better disease resistance and vigour than South American or Mexican varieties. Available from Ben's Garden, Kaitaia.
