Charles Ross

The Charles Ross apple is a cross between Peasgood Nonsuch and Cox’s Orange Pippin. It dates back to the late 19th century and is an excellent dual-purpose apple. Orange-red in colour, the fruit is large and sweet. It will hold its shape when cooked, so an excellent option for tarts but not good for sauces.

Will keep well in cold storage for up to 5 months.

A reliable cropper, Charles Ross has medium vigour and is a spur-bearer. An easy-to-grow, backyard apple it is known for its good disease resistance (particularly resistant to scab), and is a good choice for alkaline soils, as it has a higher tolerance to lime than other apple cultivars.
