Bold Gold

Bold Gold is a golden-yellow tamarillo variety developed by Incredible Edibles in association with Plant & Food Research NZ, making it one of the more recently bred and commercially supported NZ tamarillo varieties. It produces large, golden-yellow fruit that is noticeably sweeter and less acidic than the red varieties, with the skin, flesh and seed pulp all a golden-yellow colour. The milder flavour makes Bold Gold a good entry point for those who find the classic red tamarillo too sharp. Clusters of fragrant pink flowers appear in spring within 18 months of planting, followed by fruit ripening in the winter months from May to July. Plant in a warm, sheltered position with protection from frosts and strong winds. Self-fertile. Fast growing to around 3 metres. Available from garden centres nationwide.
