Blue Java

Blue Java is a cold-hardy banana variety that stands out from other bananas for two reasons: striking silver-blue skin when unripe (fading to yellow as it ripens), and sweet, creamy white flesh with a distinctive vanilla-like flavour — earning it the nickname 'Ice Cream Banana'. A triploid hybrid of Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana that tolerates lower temperatures than most banana varieties. Strong pseudostems and root systems provide wind resistance. Well suited to cooler NZ conditions compared to Cavendish types. Available from Flying Dragon Nursery NZ.
