Billington

Billington is an early-season NZ plum — a chance seedling, possibly a Cherry plum × Satsuma cross — and notable as the first fully red-fleshed plum to ripen each season, around Christmas. Small, meaty fruit with dark red skin and firm, light red flesh with good flavour that holds its bright colour beautifully when cooked, bottled or jammed. A heavy, reliable cropper with good disease resistance. Partially self-fertile but crops best with a cherry plum as pollinator nearby.
