Bill Rogers

Bill Rogers is a NZ heritage apple variety from the Koanga Institute collection, named for an individual — in keeping with Koanga's long tradition of honouring the local orchardists and growers from whose collections these varieties were saved. Many of NZ's most valuable heritage apples exist today because a single dedicated person kept a tree going, often unaware that their backyard apple was a genetically unique variety not found anywhere else. Bill Rogers is one such variety. Fruit characteristics are not documented in available public sources, which is common for varieties only recently rescued and propagated. Seedling grown on 793 rootstock, producing a moderately sized tree. Requires a pollinator. All Koanga apple seedlings are organically grown. Available from Koanga Institute.
