Alexandra

Alexandra is best known as a key pollinator for the Whiteheart hazelnut, providing an essential role in home hazelnut orchards. It also produces good crops of medium-sized nuts in its own right, with a strong, rich flavour. A later-blooming variety, well suited to colder NZ climates where late frosts can damage early-blooming hazelnuts. A reliable, dual-purpose variety. Deciduous shrub to 4–5m. Nuts harvested March to April. Available from specialist NZ nut nurseries.
