20 Ounce

20 Ounce, also known as Twenty Ounce or Cayuga Red Streak, is an American heirloom apple first exhibited in Massachusetts in 1843 and named for its ability to grow to considerable size and weight. It produces very large, attractive fruit with yellow skin splashed with red striping and white, semi-firm flesh with a mildly sweet, subacid flavour and a juicy, tart finish. Regarded for over 100 years as a premier cooking apple, it is excellent for pies, baking and sauces. Also good as a dessert apple when fully ripe. Stores for four to six months. Requires a pollinator.
