The red cherry guava is a very tolerant fruit tree, with good tolerance to salt, drought, poor soil and to low temperatures, down to approximately -5°C. It is the most cold tolerant of all the guava varieties. It is a small tree, usually growing to a maximum of 4m with a spreading habit and glossy green evergreen leaves.
The red cherry guava is fairly drought tolerant, although some moisture during fruit set will help with the size of the fruit. The red fruit grow to about 2.5cm round, and have a tangy sweet aromatic flavour and juicy flesh with small edible seeds. The fruit will turn a deep red when ripe.
